~ Boswellia Carterii (Somalia) ~

For at least 5000 years, resin of Frankincense tree (Boswellia), which is also known as olibanum, had been an important trade material for the civilizations located in the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa. As well as for religious and cultural use, Frankincense has been used in folk medicine for its anti-inflammatory, expectorant, antiseptic, and even anxiolytic and antineurotic effects.

Frankincense Boswellia carterii essential oil has resinous and incense-like basic notes with lemon, camphor-like, soap-like and woody undertones and light sweet, spicy/herb-like nuances and a faint breath of orange. The overall odor impression described as resinous, matches very well the higher concentration of alpha pinene as one of the most potent odorants in the CO2-extract. The odor of serratol/incensol can be described as woody, resinous and incense-like The high potency of alpha pinene is the reason for the different odor profile between Boswellia carteri and Boswellia serrata

CO2-extracted essential oil of Frankincense Boswellia carterii shows good efficacy against selected bacteria e.g. Streptococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and fungi e.g. Candida albicans. The essential oil has also good antioxidative activity.
